Fishing at sunset in the Firehole River.

Blue Ribbon Fly-Fishing & Fabulous Food at the Firehole Ranch

Nestled between the undisturbed shores of Hebgen Lake and the snow-capped vista of Coffin Peak, the Firehole Ranch’s 640 acres is an exclusive hideaway from the rigors of everyday life. We are located 16 miles from Yellowstone National Park, and a short drive in any direction to the finest blue-ribbon fly-fishing rivers in the West. We have catered to the discriminating and novice angler since 1947.

Year after year, 70% of our guests have returned for at least two stated reasons: the fishing and the food. Our personalized service and attentiveness to our guests’ every need is what made us Orvis “Lodge of the Year” in 1996. Let our long time chefs, Bruno and Kris Georgeton delight your senses with their amazing dishes. Organic produce accompanying fresh fish or wild game with herbs hand gathered from the garden entice your eye and palette at every meal. Each evening’s meal is complimented by wines selected by the chef.

After dinner and dessert, you enjoy a nice walk back to one of our ten guest cabins. Each is unique and decorated in a rustic western style. Sit on the porches and enjoy the beautiful sunrises and sunsets overlooking the lake. Close your eyes and relax to the sound of the native birds while swaying on a hammock by your cabin. Your night’s sleep is aided by a warm fire and knowing that another day in this beautiful country is your morning’s reward.

You begin your day with a gourmet breakfast, followed by a short ferry ride across the lake in our pontoon boat. Your guide will meet you at the shore, and you’ll be on the river shortly thereafter. Our guides are experts in the area and know all the choice spots to take you depending on your abilities and interests. You could fish a different legendary river each day of your trip: the Madison, Henry’s Fork of the Snake, Gallatin, Gibbon, Yellowstone or the Firehole. Each contains an array of rainbow trout, brown trout and native cutthroats.

We have a fully stocked Orvis fly shop on the premises, with everything you’d need for a day of either floating or wading. Many of our flies are hand-tied by our guides themselves. If you’d like to take a day off from fishing, we offer horse-back riding, canoeing on the lake, hiking and mountain biking in the adjacent Gallatin National Forrest. You could incorporate these into a day of fishing at Coffin Lake, a true adventure to a remote alpine wilderness.

Come stay with us at the Firehole Ranch and see for yourself why our superb fishing, fine dining and intimate setting will make you want to return year after year.
